MHAMID, GATEWAY TO DESERT.
Mhamid is a small village in the Sahara Desert region of Zagora, in southern Morocco. It’s one of the two gateways to the Sahara in Morocco (alongside Merzouga). Mhamid is arguably the most “authentic” part of the Sahara Desert and serves as an ideal starting point for a genuine desert experience.
Located just 7-8 hours’ drive from Marrakech and 5 hours from Ourzazate, Mhamid was originally named Taragalte. Once a thriving village inhabited by a mix of local Berber tribes, including the Drawa, Chorfa, Beni Mhamed, and Hassani, its original location, Mhamid Bali, is now an ancient kasbah situated 2 km off the main road. It was settled many years ago by black Africans from Sudan.

What a fantastic stay! The staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive, and the setting was simply breathtaking—a beautiful place to recharge. The rooms were stunning and awe-inspiring. We also had a magical excursion with Mohamed and Ismael, spending the night under the stars in a bivouac right in the heart of the desert. Thank you for your professionalism!
